Importing Pdfs - Drag & Drop

Mendeley can import PDF files with metadata.  The file must contain a DOI in the first two pages

Simply drag & drop files or folders into the open Mendeley window

Note: Scanned pdfs supplied by the CSIRO Document Delivery Service do not have the metadata required to provide a detailed record when imported into Mendeley

Saving Citations from Discovery

1. From the Results page in Discovery, select the item(s) you wish to export and then click the ellipsis at the right hand side and select the 'Export RIS' option

Saving Online Citations

You just need to be viewing an article or a list of references in the browser. This can mean that you're looking at an actual PDF file, an article entry in an online catalog, or even a list of search results. The Mendeley Web Importer will scan the page for metadata, and provide you with a list of the results it finds.

Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari:

  • Install the Mendeley Web Importer browser extension
  • Click the 'Get Web Importer for [your browser]' button and add the button to your browser. Depending on the browser, you may need to enter extensions management and either pin , or add the extension to the browser toolbar
  • Depending on the number of results the Importer finds, you'll be provided with a list of different items, or specific details of a single item. You can then review the details, and even make manual corrections within the Importer itself, before choosing to add the references to your personal Mendeley library

Manual Entry

The process to add an entry manually into your Library is essentially the same process online or with Mendeley Reference Manager. Click the 'Add new' button, then choose the 'Add entry manually' option and enter the relevant details
