EndNote

This CSIRO specific guide has information on managing your references using EndNote.

Saving your Library

Your EndNote Library is made up of an .ENL file and an associated .DATA folder.

  • The .DATA folder contains the Library data structure so it should be saved in the same folder as the .ENL file.
  • If you remove or delete the .DATA folder, you will lose customised term lists, groups and file attachments.

Ensure you save your EndNote Library on your local hard drive, for example in the folder C:\Users\ident to avoid the loss of any information.

Note that your EndNote Library will become corrupted when:
1. You save your EndNote Library in cloud syncing folders (e.g.OneDrive, Network drives, Dropbox and Google Drive).
2. You open your EndNote Library (.ENL file) from cloud syncing folders.

Moving your Library to another computer

If you move your EndNote Library to another location, you must transfer the .ENL file and the .DATA folder to the new location.

The simplest and safest way to do this is by compressing your Library.
