You may find duplicates when you import records from similar searches performed in one or more databases.
Remove duplicate records to avoid errors in your bibliography when citing references in Word.
Finding and comparing duplicates
- Click on All References to display all the references in your library.
- Go to the Library menu > Find Duplicates
- If you have multiple references in your Library, the Find Duplicates dialog box will appear. For each set of duplicates, you have the following options:
- Click Keep This Record to save the preferred reference and discard the other in the trash.
- Click Skip to leave both references in the library. The references will be placed in a temporary Duplicate References group for later review.
Deleting multiple duplicates
- Go to Library menu > Find duplicates.
- The Find Duplicates dialog box will appear.
- Click Cancel and EndNote will automatically select the most recently-entered version(s) of each duplicate reference as the one(s) to be removed.
- The duplicate references will be highlighted within a temporary group called Duplicate References.
- Go to the References menu > Move References to Trash to delete the duplicate records from the Library.
- The Duplicate References group is discarded when you close your library.
