EndNote

This CSIRO specific guide has information on managing your references using EndNote.

Direct Export

Many databases have a Direct Export function for exporting references automatically to EndNote. The steps and terminology may differ slightly.

Here are the basic steps required by most databases:

  1. Select the reference(s) you want to export using the tick boxes.
  2. Click on the Export/Save link. Terminology for this may vary, e.g. Cite / Direct Export / Output / Send to Citation Manager.
  3. Choose an output method for EndNote, usually RisMan (RIS) format works fine.
  4. Select Save / Export / Download / Open.
  5. The database will automatically direct the reference(s) into the appropriate fields in your EndNote Library. The references will now appear in the Imported References folder of your Endnote library.

When the Direct Export function is not available, you will have to create a manual entry.

Create a manual entry

To create a manual entry, go to the References menu > New Reference.
