Major Australian newspapers

Regional newsapers

Several regional newspapers are available in the ProQuest ANZ Newsstream database. Other regional newspapers are digitised and available from your State Library or the National Library of Australia, and can be accessed by submitting a document delivery request.

The Australian Financial Review
There is a 3-day delay on full-text articles from the Australian Financial Review. Although the list of articles published in the last 3 days will be available, you will not be able to view the complete content until 3 days have passed.

Major international newspapers

There are several ProQuest Newsstream databases that cover various geographical areas.

For basic tips on searching and browsing for a particular newspaper title, see the Searching for newspapers page.

Indigenous newspapers and media

Historical news sources

The National Library of Australia's (NLA) Digitised newspapers and gazettes is one of the best resources for finding historical Australian news.

  • Many Australian newspapers between 1803 and 1955 have been digitised by State Libraries or the National Library of Australia and are freely available online via NLAs Trove database.
  • Newspaper content from 1955 to the 1990s may not be consistently available online due to copyright restrictions. To access content from this timeframe, you may need to submit a document delivery request.
  • Some current newspapers from 1990 to the present day are available online. You can find many of these online newspapers in the ProQuest ANZ Newsstream database.
