Australia & New Zealand Newsstream (ProQuest)

ProQuest Australia & New Zealand Newsstream grants access to leading Australian and New Zealand newspapers containing the latest local, regional and national news, or search across US or International sources to locate global news events.

Basic search

  • Use the basic search to search for your topic or keywords, or for a newspaper title.
  • Once you've run a search, use the filters on the left side to narrow your search further by source type, date, publication title and more.

Advanced search 

  • Use advanced search options to refine your keyword search by adding subject headings, indexed companies or organisations, indexed people, locations, or NAICS codes.

(Publications) Newspaper search

Newsstream's Publications option lets you search and browse newspapers and their available issues.

  • Select Publications from the Newsstream homepage (located above the search box).
  • From the Publications Search box, enter the name of the newspaper, or browse using the A-Z list.
  • Click on the publication title to be taken to the publication’s search page and the list of available issues.
Searching within the newspaper:
  • Select the latest year, month, and issue to view all the articles published in that particular issue. 
  • Browse through the content in your selected issue by scrolling through the articles. The page numbers are displayed next to each result, and the articles appear in the same order as they would in the print version.

OR

  • Enter keywords or phrases within the 'search within this publication' or 'search within this issue' box. 
  • After executing the search, you'll be directed to a results screen showing articles exclusively from the specified publication or issue.
Modifying your search:
  • If you wish to modify your search without leaving the specific publication, it's crucial to retain the Pubid in the search box.
  • Add any additional search terms after the Pubid to further refine your results. For example, "Pubid(123456) AND additional keywords."

Discovery search

You can find newspapers and articles from leading Australian and international newspapers in the Discovery catalogue. There are three methods to search for them.

1. Keyword/topic search

  • Search for a topic or keyword in the Discovery search box, then select the ‘Newspapers search’ option from the bottom of the page or from the right hand side ‘Refine my results’ section.
  • You can also go directly to the Newspaper search to search for news articles.

2. Featured newspapers search

  • After selecting Newspapers search, return to the search box and select 'Featured newspapers' from the left of the search box.
  • From the right of the search box, you can select and search within featured newspapers including The Age, The Australian, The Australian Financial Review, and The Sydney Morning Herald.

3. Specific newspaper search

  • Search the Discovery catalogue for a specific newspaper title.
  • On the results page, select the Online Access link underneath the title and click on the database name to access the collection.
